Katie Brewer has worked in a broad spectrum of health care fields, bringing a kaleidoscope of experience to her physician assistant practice at San Juan Oncology. Having grown up in Grand Junction, Colorado where her father was a practicing oncologist, Katie had early exposure to a cancer treatment environment. She was inspired by the compassion her dad brought to the cancer treatment arena. Today, she looks back on her adult family life with her recently retired military husband and two grown children having lived in eight different states. She loves being back in the Four Corners region and experiencing all the outdoor activities the area offers. Her experience now spans primary care, infectious disease, and health promotion, including the care of patients with acute injuries, and chronic illnesses. She has also provided counseling in fitness, dietary, and behavioral modification for patients with obesity to help optimize health. In 1990 she received a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in kinesiology from the University of Colorado (Boulder), followed by her physician assistant training at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York, and later completed a health coaching certification from Georgetown University. Katie has been licensed as a physician assistant in various states including Colorado and New Mexico. Now settled in San Juan Oncology’s practice, she finds the environment to be perhaps the most challenging and rewarding of her extensive career. “Having the opportunity to see and develop relationships with patients on a more long-term basis is extremely satisfying”, she says: “You can really get to know and care deeply for your patients and know they feel comforted by a familiar face when they come for treatments or check-ups.”
Four Corners Cancer Center considers Katie a major asset to their patient care team.
